I learnt my craft from an amazingly bright but tortured soul of a copywriter who was a partner at The Partners in his day – you don’t know what you don’t know until someone brilliant points it out. And it’s all about understanding the reader and pitching the content perfectly to catch the attention, answer any questions he or she may have, and engage them in buying.

So, for me, it’s about finding the right copywriter, whatever the cost. Not every writer can do good sales copy. And not every sales copywriter could write a kids’ book. And it definitely shouldn’t be about only paying by volume. Often the greatest skill is editing something long into something suitably succinct without losing valuable content, which takes time and effort.

There’s the same amount of skill and work whether you’re making a floor-sweeping skirt or a mini – but you know which one gets more attention!
